Radically Open DBT
How is RO DBT different from DBT & other therapies?
People who tend towards overcontrol have a high threat sensitivity and so skills focus on creating safety
When people experience feelings of social safety they are more likely to be able to engage and explore with others
Key mechanism for change in RO DBT is social signalling and connectedness
Skills taught are focused towards individuals who respond to emotional intensity with overcontrol which leads to emotional loneliness
Standard DBT focuses on assisting people to have more behavioural control when they are emotionally dysregulated. Standard DBT is typically a 48 week program.
RO DBT focussed on assisting people to seek and create social safety and is typically a 30 week program
